CHAPTER I: General Requirements
Section 3: Scholarship Regulations
415. Honors at Graduation/Quarterly (Undergraduate)
Each school or program (or equivalent) shall establish criteria for honors at graduation and quarterly honors subject to the following minimum standards and procedures approved by the Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors, and Financial Aids.
(A) Honors at Graduation
Each school or program (or equivalent) may award honors to no more than 12 percent of its graduating seniors who have completed at least 72 units in the University of California. Students enrolled in the Education Abroad Program meet the residence requirement as specified in Senate Regulation 630(D). Normally no more than one percent shall be awarded summa cum laude, and no more than three percent magna cum laude, but minor year-to-year deviation from this formula shall be permitted at the discretion of the schools (or equivalents). The Committee on Undergraduate Scholarships, Honors, and Financial Aids shall oversee the awards and determine that the overall 12 percent figure is not exceeded.
(B) Quarterly Honors
Students who complete a minimum of 12 units for a letter grade with a grade point average equal to or greater than 3.5 are eligible for quarterly honors.
(C) Publication of Criteria
The criteria used for each school (or equivalent) in weighing candidates for honors at graduation shall be printed in the UCI General Catalogue. (Am 4 Jun 81)
