120: Research, Computing, and Library Resources, Council on (Am 7 May 98) (Am 5 Jun 03) (CC 15 May 06)
(A) Membership
The Council on Research, Computing, and Library Resources shall consist of sixteen Division members including at least one from each Faculty and no more than one member from any academic department. To balance the responsibilities of service among the members, each of the following groups shall have four members:
1. Biological Sciences (2 members), Health Sciences (2 members);
2. Physical Sciences (2 members), Engineering (1 member), ICS (1 member);
3. The Arts (2 members), Humanities (2 members); and
4. Social Sciences (1 member), Social Ecology (1 member), GSM (1 member), Education (1 member).The Vice Chancellor for Research, the Director of Network and Academic Computing, and the University Librarian shall be ex officio non-voting members.
(B) Duties
(1)Administer general campus funds for faculty research and for research travelgrants, review proposals for new University-recognized research units, review and report on the activities of the existing university-recognized research units on the Irvine Campus, and advise the Chancellor and represent the Division on matters relating to research policy and academic resources, including policies on the acquisition and use of computers for research and instruction, telecommunications policy, and library policy and administration on the Irvine campus. Through ad hoc committees, advise the Vice Chancellor for Research on campus nominees or applicants for prizes and awards from foundations and other granting agencies that restrict the number of proposals accepted. Comment on issues as requested by the Chair of the Academic Senate, Irvine Division.
(2) Maintain liaison with the University Committee on Library, University Committee on Information Technology and Telecommunications Policy, and the University Committee on Research Policy.
(3)A designated library representative shall be responsible for maintaining Council liaison with the University Librarian, and with any library committees that may exist in any of the Faculties.
