Faculty Research Grants for Cultural Diversity Studies

Grants are available from the Academic Senate Council on Research, Computing and Libraries for research projects and research-related travel for Cultural Diversity Studies. All members of the UCI Academic Senate are eligible to apply for awards up to $3,000. Grant recipients are required to submit a brief report on completed projects.
 
Purpose:
The purpose of this program is to support academic research addressing issues of cultural diversity, particularly studies pertaining to cultures that are frequently neglected in mainstream, canonical studies.
Funded projects are usually in the areas of humanistic and social science disciplines and do not generally include medical or administrative studies, or studies of health and delivery systems for minorities.
 
 
Application Instructions:
Proposed research should have clear aims, sensible means of achieving them, and significance to the applicant's field. Proposals should be written so that they are understandable tonon-specialists.
 
Awards may be used for whatever purpose, within University policies,the grantee believes will best aid in the research endeavor. Proposal budgets must be directly related to the research plan. Travel and equipment, if requested, should be essential to the research itself. Equipment costs will be expected to be shared with the applicant's school or department. Please provide a clear explanation to justify all budget items requested.
 
If research involves human or animal subjects or the use of rDNA, funding will be contingent on approval of the protocol by the IRB, IACUC and/or the IBC.
 
Although discouraged, summer salary and teaching buy-outs will be considered under exceptional circumstances.
 
 
Order the sections of your proposal, as follows (no staples please):
 
2. Abstract (on a single, separate sheet)
3. Description of the Research Plan (up to 5 pages)
4. Brief curriculum vitae for each faculty participant (up to 4 pages each)
5. If equipment is requested, include a letter from applicant's Dean and/or Chair indicating the amount and nature of the matching funds.
 
Send original and five copies of complete proposal and one additional copy of the abstract to: Michelle AuCoin, Academic Senate Office, 3700 Berkeley Place South, ZOT 1325.

The proposal deadline is March 1 by 5:00 P.M. (If March 1 falls on a weekend, proposals will be accepted on the following Monday.) Proposals will be reviewed at CORCL's March meeting and applicants notified by April 1.
