Responsibilities:

CAP's charge is to confer with and make recommendations to the Chancellor and Provost on appointments, advancements, promotions, and other personnel matters. The Council also maintains iaison with the University Committee on Academic Personnel through its UCAP representative. CAP members also represent the Council at other Administrative and Senate meetings, such as the Special Senate Committee on Diversity.

Membership:
The Council on Academic Personnel shall consist of eleven elected Division members serving three-year terms. One member shall be elected from each of the following: the Claire Trevor School of the Arts, the School of Biological Sciences, the Henry Samueli School of Engineering, the Paul Merage School of Business, the School of Humanities, the Donald Bren School of Information and Computer Sciences, the School of Physical Sciences, the School of Social Ecology, and the School of Social Sciences. Two members shall be elected from the College of Health Sciences, representing respectively the clinical departments and the basic science departments; to maintain continuity, their terms shall not expire in the same year.

Candidates for each of the eleven seats shall be elected by the members of the Division as a whole to represent the Division at large.

No Dean or Department Chair shall serve on the Council. In addition, no Associate Dean or other administrative officer whose duties include participation in the academic personnel review process shall serve on the Council.

Schedule of Meetings

CAP meets alternate Thursdays from mid-September to mid-December and every Thursday from January through July.
